We have all heard about the success stories of internet businesses like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and other huge sites, but do you know what they all have in common? They started as small, basic business ventures and used internet marketing to propel their name and status. And believe it or not, they all took a simple approach to marketing, an approach that we will discuss here.

Customer service should always be the cornerstone of your internet marketing plan. Keeping your customers happy and satisfied is far more important online than in more traditional business models. Because of the Internet’s terrific opportunities for social interaction, a dissatisfied customer can (and will!) register their displeasure far and wide, spoiling your website’s reputation with potential visitors who might never have formed a poor opinion otherwise.

Customers are more likely to trust a testimonial of an actual user than anything your ads say, so why not put some in your website? Customers will be happy to give you a one if you’ve done a good job, and you can easily draw in new customers with a trustworthy testimonial.

Let your readers grade your website. There are several ways to do this, including outside websites, installing your own feedback system, and emailing the consumer directly. Asking a customer what they would change about your website is a cheap and easy way to fix any issues, as well as developing rapport with your customer.

If you are going to use social media to expand your business’s web presence, be sure to understand the difference between personal and business profiles. You want your business profile to be creative and interesting, but it’s supposed to be about a business. Don’t include too much information about yourself as the business owner, for example.

Don’t just publish videos on YouTube, brand your YouTube page with your company’s logo, tagline, colors and company information. YouTube receives the third highest traffic of any site on the web, so it is important to get a legitimate home for your brand set up there. It can lead to a major bump in traffic to your company’s home site.

Internet marketing can be a very cost effective way of advertising. Television and radio advertisements can cost thousands of dollars for mere seconds, and although this method of advertisement reaches a broad audience, it can be expensive. Marketing on-line also reaches a broad audience, but for a fraction of the cost.

To bring a steady stream of customers to your site, pick a niche and stick to it. Selling a wide range of products sounds good on the surface, but selling items in the same category will bring you better search engine traffic. Look at the categories on your merchant’s website to get ideas.

While you might not be the next Mark Zuckerberg, you can be a flourishing businessperson making a healthy income, setting your own hours and taking orders from no one. Use these tips to get started and to get the ball rolling. With some effort, things will snowball, and your business will thrive.
